7. Disc: template

Today I started to create a disc template and draft of the disc picture itself.
Here is the picture that helped me create the template.

The black circle represents the bleed area and the pink circle is the disc itself. The diamater of the circle including the bleed area is 125.5mm and without it it's 117.5. The stacking ring's diamater is 16.7mm

Below is the template that I have created based on the picture above.

 

Ideas for the dvd disc

 

I had a look at the mass effects discs and I decided that I will stick to the similar style. I will again probably use the earth as the background and the shepard in the corner. I'll make sure that the middle of the disc doesn't contain anything important so that I'll be able to cut it out. I'm still not sure if it's a good idea to follow the half bad half good style that I will use for the dvd case.



 

6. Company Logo

For my logo I will probably use a similar style to the official one. I will change the style so that it will fit to the rest of my project and I will probably add something to it as well, so it doesn't look too similar. Apart of the text I will probably put a picture of the earth behind it to add some kind of content to the logo. The text on it's own wouldn't be enough in my opinion.

5. Dvd Case: Title

I did a little bit of research and I have found two techniques that I will use for the title. The title of the project is Mass Effect. I decided that those two words will be different. ''Mass'' will be a dark red ''evil'' style and ''Effect'' will be blue ''good'' style. As you could found out from the previous blogs the whole picture will divide into good and bad side.
Below are a examples of both techniques with final pictures.
I will try to keep the same style not only with the text but also with the character and everything else on the picture.
As everyone that played mass effect know, when you play as a bad guy face of your character will be covered by red scars all over his face and his eyes will turn red. They look really similar to the magma text below which is why I chose this exact style.
When you play as a good guy, there won't be any scars and your face will look normally. That's why I went with a nice blue and peacefully looking colour.

4. DVD Case: first idea

I already have a vague idea of what I want my cover to look like. This may change based on new photoshop techniques that I will learn and tutorials that I will watch.

I will use a ready space picture as a background. I will manipulate it so that it fits my needs. I will look for a picture with at least two planets. On the front page with the usual dvd case stuff such as windows games logo I will have shepard and other two teammates that I haven't chose yet. They will be at the bottom of the case. At the top I will have a title of the case which will obviously be Mass Effect".

3. Mass Effect fan Art & Research

I have decided to go for mass effect side story for my project. Now that I know what I will do, I decided to go on the internet to look for some inspiration. For my front cover to be focused on shepard and few other characters from his crew behind him. I haven't decided the position for him yet but I will probably go for him standing straight in the middle like on the dvd cover of Mass effect 3. I will obviously make sure that it doesn't look similar.

2. Project decision

I decided to use mind map to write down all of the advantages of the topics that I have chosen previously.

As you can see mass effect has won with four advantages and that is what I will go for. I decided to do a side story that will take place during mass effect 2. I chose mass effect 2 because I believe that the most interesting characters take part in that part. I will use the  character from the game Commander Shepard as a main character as well. I won't use any stories from the original game. I will come up with an entirely new story taking place between the main story. 

I didn't really thought about the DVD cover yet, however I will probably go for Shepard standing in the space. Quite similar to the original game covers. I will also try to stick as many characters from the game as possible to make it interesting. 

1. Ideas for project

My first thought when I started to think about this project was to come up with something popular so that there would be a lot of material available for it. For example if I was to do a project about a game that nobody played, it would be hard to find material such as cutscenes for the trailer. Here's the list that I came up with so far, remember however that this list is not final and I have not made the decision yet.

- Action movie focused on car action such as fast and furious
- car racing game such as need for speed
- rpg game based in a fantasy world such as baldur's gate, witcher, dragon age
 - mass effect 4  (not sure if that's acceptable as they are making this game right now)
